Board of Directors

Walter Bartlett

I have been President of Piedmont Community College since August of 2009. I truly believe in community service which is why I have been a member of the community college family since 1986. I am honored to serve on the Person County United Way Board as this is the grassroots agency for a host of organizational entities that serve the vast and varied needs of the citizens of Person County.

Judy Batten

Director Person County Partnership for Children since 2006, following a 30 year career working with children and adults with disabilities. Married for 38 years, 2 children and 4 wonderful grandchildren. A lifelong resident of Person County, I am happy to serve as a member of the United Way Board of Directors. United Way is a great way to give back to our community. Sir Winston Churchill said “We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give.” I have definitely found that to be true and United Way provides everyone in our community a way to give, whether by a monetary contribution or by volunteering your time.

Wanda Rogers

Director Person Industries/Person County Recycling Center. Married 32 years, two children, one grandchild. My husband Mark and I have lived in Person County all our lives. I have been with Person Industries for 27 years, the Director for 14 years. Person Industries is a Community Rehabilitation Program that trains people with disabilties for community jobs. Person Industries operates the Person County Recycling Center that opened in June 2009. I have served on the Person County United Way Board since 2009, and do so because I truly care about our community and I want to give back. There are so many unmet needs and the United Way is here to help meet those needs.

Married with two daughters, has lived in Rougemont for the past 8 years. "I have served on the board for the eight years and I am in a unique position as the 4-H program in our office also receives funds from our local United Way. Therefore, I get to see some of the people that United Way is affecting and helping every day and I am aware that all of the agencies that United Way funds is doing some wonderful work and that each of us is touched by the United Way in some fashion whether it is knowing a child in 4-H or the Scouts, seeing someone you know receive assistance from the Christian Help Center, knowing someone who received blood from the Red Cross, etc. I am proud to say by serving on the Person County United Way, I am helping to make our community the best it can possibly be. And if you don't feel that your donation makes a difference, come and visit the Cooperative Extension Office and see how many 4-H youth we are helping and teaching."

I am retired from what was GTE, AT&T and Sprint. My present occupation is running a small publishing company.  I am on the board because I believe the management experience I gained during 42 years of varied telephone company assignments prepared me to help guide the United Way in their mission to efficiently channel charitable donations in directions where they will do the most good.
